The programs feature the country’s top reading experts, look at different reading strategies, provide practical advice for parents, and interweave the personal stories of children, families, and teachers.

Acclaimed actress Rita Moreno hosts Becoming Bilingual, a 30-minute PBS program that examines the challenges of teaching children to read in a new language. The show visits six cities across the country to learn about the different ways schools are working to create bilingual readers. Becoming Bilingual is the seventh episode of the award-winning series Launching Young Readers.
Pat Mora is a Mexican-American author, poet, and advocate for the Hispanic community. Many of her books are bilingual, presenting topics affecting Mexican-American families and culture. She is also the founder of El día de los libros/El día de los niños.
